Ovechkin Hits 65, Wild Clinch

Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin notched two more goals tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning. That brings his season total to 65 with one game left in the regular season. That is now the record for most goals in a season by a left winger. And with the 4-1 win over thew Bolts, the Caps keep pace with the Hurricanes in the Southeast and also take over the eighth seed in the East.

Also finished at this point is the New York matchup. The Rangers beat the Islanders 3-0 on the strength of 2 Jaromir Jagr goals and a shutout by Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers have secured a playoff spot already and are now trying to overtake the Devils for fourth in the conference.

The Minnesota Wild beat the Calgary Flames to claim their first Northwest Division title. This means they are guaranteed a top three seed in the postseason.

Henry Gone From Cincy

There is one less criminal in Cincinnati black-and-orange. The Bengals cut Chris Henry after his latest brush with the law. This time he faces a potential assault charge.

He has now been arrested 5 times in about 3 years. Past charges include driving with expired license plates and letting minors consume alcohol in a hotel room registered under his name. He was suspended for the first eight games of last season by commissioner Roger Goodell.

Favre Not Coming Back

Brett Favre’s agent, James Cook, has strongly denied rumors that he is trying to interest teams in trading for the rights to Favre. Favre actually hasn’t filed the necessary papers with the NFL, so he is still considered as an active and tradeable player. He also said that Favre’s retirement was not connected in any way with Randy Moss re-signing with the Patriots.
